It is stated that a car must have the emissions controls it left the factory with ( EGR, DPF etc ) but I have has my EGR removed for a few years, and the DPF 'canister' has been hollowed out and put back on. It has passed the MOT with no problems.oldgit wrote:
I thought i read somewhere that if DPF was removed the vehicle would fail MOT??
To the untrained eye everything is normal, and with a diesel, only a visual check is necessary.
This may change in the future, but an older car like ours isn't the focus of the newer regulations as the emissions gumph was mandatory in about 2008 ( I think )
There are a few members in your area, and also a few on 406coupeclub.org - these chaps have the same engine as ours in the coupe so there are many members there who have ' overcome ' the FAP issues. It may be worth signing up just to read through what the FAP is and what is involved in removing it.
You can, of course, keep the FAP in place and simply(!) refill the additive tank, do a regeneration to clear it, use a diagnostic to reset the counters and wait until it needs doing again... Its a good system on modern cars but on ours it was a bit of a knee-jerk reaction to emission laws and it can be problematic if you decide to keep it in place.
As for the fuse - only the speed sensor - pre-heat unit and diesel ECU seem relevant although I may be wrong.
