Hi guys, new to forum but with a big problem... Just took ownership of a 406. HDi 110 on a v plate estate.. Now, ready for this???
With ignition turned off, my speedo, rev counter is illuminated (but no outside sidelights) and the stop light is flashing as if it's on key position number 1....
So, I insert the key, turn to pos. 1, then 2 as the battery and oil light comes on wit airbag abs etc, then she starts no problem at all... AWESOME.it starts and drives except for no water temp reading, no speedo or rev counter working...
Now, turn off ignition, speedo etc illuminated, stop light flashing and all this with key removed !!!. It stays on for about 3 mins, then turns itself off as it should for about 5 seconds and then it's flashing stop and illuminated as in the beginning...
. Tried a different barrel and ignition wiring and the immobiliser ring plug is a bit different so didn't get to follow my intentions thru.. But.... With the 2 plugs disconnected from the ignition barrel it still does it, so the fault is not with the barrel wiring I don't think...
Any ideas will be appreciated

Sounds to me light water under the floor carpet affecting the multi-pin plugs under there.

Might be similar to my recent experience where one indicator stayed on all the time.....
Fixed it by following the battery disconnect / reconnect procedure, been ok so far since (ie 2 months)

might be worth giving this a try first?

Hi I had the same thing on a y plate the only sure solution I found was to cut plugs off under the carpets on the divers side and solder and seal all the wires, in all a right pain in the a%*&, oh and theres 2 or 3 under the seat that are crimped these need doing as well
If it doesn't fit you need a bigger hammer

Funny enough I have just bought a v reg 110 for parts with the exact same problem.
I mentioned to the previous owner about the wet carpet syndrone and he checked the connectors and they were dry.
When I get the car home I'll check it out and report back.

It doesn't matter if the carpets are dry, if they have been wet in the past corrosion has already begun, if you look inside the plugs at the back and can see any green deposits on the wire its corrosion
If it doesn't fit you need a bigger hammer
