Hello all,
Have spent the past few weeks dealing with I am convinced is a BSi issue....
Airbag and ABS faults have shown on ignition for many months and Radio sporadically loses preset stations. I have ignored these issues since purchase.
However, whilst driving on motorway additional faults were reported, then radio cut in and out, following series of piercing beeps (through ICE), then dials dropped and picked up up, then radio silent, and STOP showed on dash, then all dials dead. This in the course of a few hours motoring. Passenger reported smell of smoke, (though could have been external). Obviously I hadn't just ignored all this, I tried stopping and waiting with ignition off. Then stop, wait and battery disconnect. All to no avail.
Now situation is such that unlocking the car with central locking brings dash board fault lights, including STOP to life and radio / clock panel illuminated, before key insertion.
I suspected BSi fault after some forum search. Performed a reset (http://www.bba-reman.com/content.aspx?c ... ol_failure) but not sorted.
Read more found a lot of people with water in drivers floor space causing issue. Checked that out, all dry, pins on connectors looked fine. Thanks for this post though, excellent work : viewtopic.php?f=10&t=12118
Took to local garage, they shrugged shoulders "Peugeot dealer only' they said.
So questions in obvious order:
Is it a BSi fault?
Are there any further remedial options for the (very) amateur?
Who, other than dealer might be able to resolve?
Approx guesses at dealer replace/fix costs?
Many thanks in advance

Hi & welcome -- wish it was under better circumstances

He0s already checked those and they're fine. I'm thinking condensation inside the BSI

Re: 406 HDi 90 2001 Electrical / BSi ECU, dash and dial fail
Mine's been doing odd stuff in the recent cold snap, which I'm convinced are failing battery related, for example:
Auto headlights enabling themselves after starting the engine from cold,
Lost sync with both keyfobs, wouldn't re-sync had to use PP2000 to 're-learn' them.
Stereo turning itself on at 50% max volume / cd selected, after starting the engine from cold,
Even worse radio reception than usual, continually 'searching',
Radio displaying one station, but playing another,
MFD display fading out until next time engine started,
MFD staying on after removing the key, (this can just be a timing glitch that affects most full-mux cars once in a while).
Climate display going off completely while starting.
Thing is, it does none of these when warm.
I also recall some similar stuff with the Xsara years ago, that culminated in a smell of burning and battery acid. Disconnected it quick / legged it / swapped for another battery when it cooled and never had any more trouble for the 3 more years or so I had it.

Funny you should mention the headlights as i started mine from cold the other night,it had been standing for a few days so was well cold and the headlights came on for no apparent reason, the mfd gets a few dead lines on either side of the display but gets a bit better when it warms up a bit.

Re: 406 HDi 90 2001 Electrical / BSi ECU, dash and dial fail
Thanks for the replies. Guess the important question now is whether this is something only a dealer can fix, given my local garage said they couldn't do it. Anyone know somewhere in or around London that can take on this kind of work?
And given the age/value of the car whether its worth it or time to look for a new car?
Thoughts?

If the passenger is noticing the smell of Burning,
that wouid point me to look at the electrics on the passenger side,
id get the lid off the fuse box and have a nosey,
Quote: (Now situation is such that unlocking the car with central locking brings dash board fault lights, including STOP to life and radio / clock panel illuminated, before key insertion. )
abroken/chaffed wires within a door loom can cause that too,
the Wiring to the door window Mech has a perm/ live feed which can feed back creating havoc .
