I have a 99 406 executive, the heater/air con unit appears to be dead, is there a common problem that this is likely to be, also will another model dash unit from the same year work, the executive dash panel appears to be different and not readily available as a used part,
Cheers Nige

Re: 406 air con dead
Hello. Umm, lots of things really, same as any car. Gas all escaped, blown fuse, knackered compressor, ecu gone mad. Specific to the 406 the relay in the BSI dies (applies to an early D9 - facelift, on a 1999 yours could be either)

Hi Nige & welcome aboard.
Are you saying the display looks dead, or the a/c won't get cold? Does the heater work OK?

Re: 406 air con dead
the wiring to the motor (under the glovebox)tends to get damaged or burnt sometimes it could be that
Re: 406 air con dead
Display is dead and no controls working, The heater appears to function so possibly the control unit, problem is I can only find standard units available and not the one fitted to the executive model, wondered if these would fit the existing wiring

The executive has climate control, the simpler displays just give you manual temperature adjustment and a/c on/off.
I don't know if one from a newer exec/SE/GTX/GLX would work, they all look the same and climate control is much more common on later cars.
There's frequently someone breaking a suitable car on the forum - you never know.

I have a spare heater control from a late model SE amongst my spares. Can you post a pic of yours and the connectors and I'll check if it's the same.
