Windows

Post by northyorkspaul »

Hi,just joined hello all!...guess this is old ground but having read some of the posts regarding window faults mine is a bit different?...my prob is...drivers window and pass side rear window work fine, pass front and drivers side rear don't work at all...so its like 'diagonals' which seems odd..the switches are ok and power getting to the motor on passenger front window and it clicks on the 'up' but no sound on 'down'...sorry bit complicated but was hoping for any ideas?....wish it had old manual windows!.Thanks.P.

Hi Paul, welcome to the club :cheesy:

That is an unusual occurrence - did it happen over night or did one window fail before the opposite one?

The window switch itself is prone to failing, as its exposed to the elements when the door is opened - and its not unusual either for the window motors to stop working.

I would firstly discount the switch, as its the easiest to swap ( pop to a scrap yard if you have a local one.. ) or give yours a clean ( there is a guide on the forum somewhere but its too late at night to go hunting  ) or I can post my spare one to you to try out, then you can post it back.

If its the motors that are broken, these are a straight forward swap too - I can talk you through it if you need help.

Hi Gingermagic!...thanks for your reply and welcome!,,,erm its been like it since I got the car in 2008 lol..kept putting it off as two windows are working but would like to sort it.It strange that the diagonals work/don't work?...it would be odd for both motors to stop don't you think...maybe its something to do with the drivers switch I will have anothetr look tomorrow,I ran out of steam today!...thanks will let you know how I get on.

Hi,

I had(well, have...) a problem like that in mine, at least in my case it's the "Windows-Lock" button that it's failing, usually if I press the switch two times (Lock-Unlock) it fixes the problem.

You probably have tried this already but it's worth posting just in case (I've had all kinds of problems with electrical devices and the ones I couldn't fix by myself were usually very simple ones...Like turning the "On" switch on the back of the Device for example...  )

Yeah, I figured :cheesy:

Just a piece of information that I found when testing my window switches about 2 years ago (if memory doesn't fail me), if one of the switches is at fault, that window won't open.

In other words, your Driver Switches can be just fine but if the physical switch from that particular window (for ex: Passenger Window) is at fault, it won't open.
Not sure if the other way around applies.

So, maybe you could try connecting the Switch that it's working from the Rear Passenger Door to the Rear Driver's Door and see if it works (worst case scenario you will lose a few minutes of your time  ...best case scenario, you'll have clear evidence that the Switch is at fault  )

Sorry for not being able to help much more, if you have a multimeter you can always test the connections on the Driver's Switches to see if all is ok, at least you would know where to start addressing your problem.

PS: Make sure that you have the windows unlocked on the Driver Switch before Testing
