steering column electrics
Hi new to 406 oc just bought a 51 plate 406 hdi it has many issues and I hope to sort most of them like boot filling with water and interior lights not working when doors opened but first problem on my loooong list is the electrics on steering column the indicators and wipers work but nothing else does the horn, air bag, lights , none of them work but lights work automatically any ideas I have checked connections (the ones I can see) any ideas
Re: steering column electrics
First off hello and welcome!
I believe auto lights over rides the manual function, press and hold the button on the end of the stalk until you get the auto lights off message on the display.
A none working horn is usually due to dirty connectors under the airbag, you need to remove the airbag and give it a clean. look for the com2000 change how-to in the knowledge base. Lots of pics and straight forward enough to do just a little on the fiddly side.
Water in the boot is probably a badly fitting light cluster, take them both off and clean up both faces where light meets body work. Some members have used tiger seal and other such sealants but I found a clean and making sure they were bolted on tightly worked for me.
Airbag could be a few things but generally the under seat connectors are a safe bet, pull apart and clean or chop and solder the wires. Our own Farmerpug has a how-to on youtube, username peugeotcitreon2cv if memory serves.
Please remember to disconnect the battery and leave it for a good few minutes before messing with airbags!!!!
Good luck and hopefully they're all simple and quick fixes.

Re: steering column electrics
Many thanks to Gumby6371 for his great advice but ended up needing a new squib as the ribbon between steering wheel and the column but the connections under seats was also at fault next job intermittent heavy power steering lol
