Yet another problem arrives (Engine light)

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Yet another problem arrives (Engine light)

Post by RayneR »

Well yesterday after being on the highway i was noticing a very loud whistle everytime i press the gas pedal and sudden it appears the engine management light and it went on protection mode and started to run slower like turbo not working all that stuff.

Strange enough is that the car is now running fine ( still sometimes it comes the whistle ) but the engine light is still ON.

Now i want an cheap diagnostic cable/adapter so i can see the problem and reset the light without the needing of a laptop since i don't have one. Something that use bluetooth that i can use with app Torque on the smartphone.

But this will be seen by someone with knowledge after summer i just want to see what triggered the light and the problem with the whistle because it bothers a lot.

No bluetooth OBD reader will work with any HDI 406 (bar a very few EODB capable ones towards the end of production). I suspect if you're hearing a whistle it will probably be a boost leak and the most common culprit being the lower intercooler hose on the 110.

Thanks for answering, so what will read the 406? only the lexia ? I'hav ordered one of that cheap bluetooth for nothing then hehe..

But would the leak give an engine error ? Because the light it's not turning off for a few days now but hell i don't want to stop the car just now i'm on vacations and the car works anyway, sometimes it comes the whistle ...

Well today i received the bluetooth eobd reader and it worked on my 406

I could see some relevant information like the speed, revs, vacuum/boost, ecu faults.

On ecu faults there was a Turbo/Super charger wastegate Selenoid "A" fault so i cleared it and it's "OK" again, but i must knowledge that it will come soon eventually because it's not the first time i go into the highway and the home limp mode appears even before the accident i had... but not so often...

Well regarding the whistle on the 4th and 5th gear, it's probably from the clutch/gearbox because sometimes the 5th gear and 1st gear it's hard to engage ...

Thank you.

Wow! May I have a link to this bluetooth reader please? There's been very little success with these readers in general, lots have tried the ELM237 on the coupe club and they only seem to work with the OBD compliant post-2001 petrols and post-2004 diesels. I too have a semi-mux HDI 110 and would love a bluetooth reader so I could pair it with my phone.

This one :)

Just remember that in options in torque app you must enable slow connection.
