Fuel gauge

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Fuel gauge

Post by exec406 »

A strange fault with the fuel gauge (2003 2.2 hdi Exec)

Starting from 'cold' shows no fuel with orange light flashing, then after driving about 3 miles (sometimes sooner) the gauge comes back to life and stays OK.

Next morning, same situation. There's been a low pressure and a high pressure fuel pump recently fitted so I don't think it's the sender as Peugeot advised the low pressure pump in this model comes with the sender. Could it be a moisture related problem?, e.g. as the wiring heats up etc it comes back on line?

I had this problem with my 2.2 C5, try disconnecting the battery for a few minutes - it cured mine.

Hi

Thanks for the reply. I was going to disconnect the battery tomorrow as it has been rainy this week so far. In that time the gauge started to 'come back' quicker from showing zero at cold maybe two minutes.

I then tried getting out the car for about three minutes (when gauge was working OK), and not locking the car during that time. Locked the car and came back 8 hours later and gauge is back to normal. I believe this three minutes is the time you would wait before disconnecting the battery.

Cheers.

NB: Re: the link below.

Does the 3 minute rule when changing batteries apply to D9 cars?

Yes, its to let the BSI go to sleep before you do anything with the electrics to avoid confusing it......
