Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Its a pretty exciting thing when you discover stuff that your car has and you never knew it?

My lx has all the MPG info in the BSI or ECU I'm sure of it. I'd love to be able to get that info on screen like the Glx's

Nevermind. Anyways, Does anyone know how to remove the panel the glass sits on from the wing mirror? I cant seem to get it off. The panel has been knocked off the motor for turning the mirror. So it can only go up and down and not left and right. And when you reach 88mph, instead of travelling through time, the mirror knocks inwards totally and I've lost the use of the mirror until I stop and manually push it out again. I just heard you guys talking about taking the mirror apart and a few pointers would be helpful

To get the glass off you have to move the mirror up as far as it will go; you can then just about see two metal pins at the base of the mirror glass.
These are a circular sprung clip that fits in lugs on the mirror glass. Get a small flat head screwdriver and push these towars each other and inwards; the clip will pop off and the glass can be removed. You have to unplug the heated element wires from the glass; careful cos they corrode!
At this stage you can see the motor; 3 torx screws secure it and there's a plug on the side at the base.
You'll basically need to replace this; I stripped one down to try and fix it and found the teeth stripped from one of the drive gears.
There was a guy selling them on ebay for a tenner a while back!

Thanks. Got the glass off, Had a look and one of the little plastic arms that pushes the mirror is snapped, i tried some superglue to no avail. Can I buy that little round thing with the motors seperately? It looks like it can be used in loads of cars

I'm not sure which car I'm looking at but I had a quick squint on service box and it's about 25 squids. Ouch. Wouldn't a complete mirror from the scrappies be cheaper?

Aha! If it's just one of those that's snapped I have spares from when I cannibalised mine! PM me your address and buy me a beer when your Woking bound
You mean the plastic arm with a ball joint on one end and teeth on it?
A word of warning, you have to strip it down to get the arm in there. I did a wonderful botch job patching mine together until I got the replacement, I had the whole thing in pieces and it's a right fiddly bastard lining the teeth up.

Holey thread resurrection Fatman!

It took me almost a year to realise my D9 had folding mirrors but I guess I must be getting better as it only took me 3 months to realise yoyoII has them too  Mind you there's only an extra line on the D9's mirror switch, while the yoyo has a whole button to give you a clue.

Found it in the same way too, I left it up on the kerb outside the clinic where I had my MRI etc. done, when I can out some kind* soul had folded the mirror in. Folded it back, got in and turned the key - "CLUNK!". Hold on, I know that noise...

It's in the first post, if you fold the mirrors in by hand and then fold them out, they don't lock in place until they're powered, which results in a BANG! as they lock back on the spindle. I didn't realise the D9 had folding mirrors until I'd washed it, folding the mirrors in with my hands to clean them and back out again, so when I went to move it it made this almighty bang from both sides and I found out what it meant on this here forum. Obviously when the yoyo did the same thing I knew what it was straight away, I'd just never been interested enough to look at the switch with my specs on so I hadn't realised it had them.
