electric fault

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

electric fault

Post by mossy »

My car is a 406HDI Diesel turbo ,the problem I have the immobiliser comes on and if I take a battery lead off and refit it car will start the other problem the car dash board stays lit with the engine stopped and keys out of lock if I press brake pedal dash lights go out ,and yet another the ABS light is on the dash all the time and the air bag light also stays on .These problems started a week ago I also noticed a drip on the offside just above the accelerator pedal this appeared after heavy rain and the car parked on a cambered road .The immobiliser problem is not regular nor is the dashboard lights a regular thing ,the air bag and ABS symbols are on all the time .Got worse the immobiliser is on all the time now so car will not start .

I have had something similar myself and it was all due to water under the drivers side carpet.

Hi Mossy, welcome.

My initial thoughts are also water under the drivers side carpet ( big connectors under there and even if the top feels dry, it could be loch ness underneath..!! ) but you say you saw a drip above the accelerator cable, which is where the BSI lives.

The BSI is tucked behind the fusebox and is the 'hub' where most of the electrics talk to each other - if there is water in here then you may have big problems - have a feel around for water.

PM sent, but have you checked to see if the BSI is damp - some time with a hairdryer in that area may help.
