I don't know if I have asked this on here before, my memory being what it is, I am still trying to find the cause of poor fuel consumption on my latest 406 Hdi estate, it really is poor averaging 37.7 mpg running round here as opposed to about 50 mpg on the old one and my C5.
Having found nothing wrong with it so far I suspect that the timing might be out a tooth as the cam belt was changed before I had it. The Lexia says "camshaft/crankshaft synchronised - yes". Does this mean that they are accurately synchronised or would it still tell me this if it was a notch out?

Re: PP2000 and timing?
I don't honestly know - it must be "seeing" the right signals from the crank and camshaft sensors, but I have no idea how accurate the timing has to be for it to pass this test.
I think it probably is worth your while checking the timing, many 'experts' don't slacken the bolts holding the camshaft pulley to its hub and equalise the tension on both sides of the cam pulley when changing the belt.
I got the timing marginally out on a DW12 for this reason and TBH if it wasn't my own car I would never have realised there was anything wrong. It ran almost perfectly, but I could tell it had lost its 'edge'. After re-checking it carefully, I found it was out by something like 1/4 of a tooth. Don't know about the effect on mpg, but it definitely made a difference.

Re: PP2000 and timing?
Thanks, looks as though I will have to investigate myself, another job I could do without but we are going to the North of Scotland next month and I can't afford that sort of consumption, if I can't sort it out I will have to take the C5 which is bigger but nothing like as nice to drive.

Re: PP2000 and timing?
You only need the top bit of the timing cover off to check it, so it shouldn't take too long.

Re: PP2000 and timing?
That's what I thought but finding the hole for the TDC pin is another thing, but I'm going to have to do it. Can I get the top cover off without removing the engine mounting?

Sorry, I don't have a 110, so don't know.
Maybe one of the others?

Re: PP2000 and timing?
I should know, I have changed enough cam belts but my memory doesn't work any more. I have no doubt I shall soon find out.

Re: PP2000 and timing?

Pretty sure the engine mounting passes through the gap under the thin bit of the guard at the top, so you should be OK.
Good luck with it.
