Electrics all off

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Electrics all off

Post by FarmerPug »

A 607 question :supafrisk:

Before starting the car nothing electrical works, including the horn, Hazzard lights, main beam flasher, central locking and radio, even turning the key to the position before starting up the lights on the dash do not show up.
Which in my other 607 all work when required.

However when I put the key, in turn, the starter, even just crank it without starting it the electrics come on, and work.

Take the key out wait for approximately 2 minutes a click occurs and all the electrics go off again and are as before they will not work.

I know from the other 607 and my 406 a certain amount of electrical components shut down after this period of time, the electric windows being one. But things such as the central locking, radio, flashers etc normally always are ready to work regardless of how long it has been since the engine started.

It seems like economy mode is being far more economical than it should be, any ideas what could be causing this?

Akchewally, it sounds more like the relay that allows you to work the windows for a minute or so after you shut off (I presume the 607 has this as well as the 406) is controlling a hell of a lot more than it should.

I think first off, as the car is new to you, if it has anything after-market - stereo, scat nav, willy warmer, anything, rip it right out. Also check wiring for mouse/idiot damage.

Sounds like an obscure problem you have there. At a guess, you've lost a supply to the kit that should be on before the engine starts - quite likely something has been disconnected and re-connected incorrectly so it's now picking up power only when the engine is on. The one saving grace is that you have a healthy example to compare with.

I haven't yet found a site with "607 circuit diagrams", Googling that very phrase brings up a number promising looking sites, but I'm not brave enough to try that from work - if you have decent PC security and your own machine, give it a go.

I checked Autodata as well - it's got 406 diagrams, but sadly not 607

What is it with Peugeot electrics/electronics!

Only a guess and thinking 406 a bsi reset sounds good or couldn't this be a key/transponder fault?

Just been reminded about the 2nd battery some of the 607s had, worth checking that as its a bells and whistles model.

The battery currently in it is not brand new, it goes between cars i have but i keep it charged and it seems to work. It seems something BSI related

I have a full Sedre disk on my computer, been looking at 607 diagrams for mine with the 9885 RPO but just dont fully understand them.

Doh! 2nd battery, who'd have thought it? That would explain much if it's dead or missing. Service Box lists it as "access battery", would that be accessory?

Changed the 2nd battery last night and it solved the problems!
Strange that it was so well hidden, i couldnt see any second battery on the wiring diagrams and the pp2000 did not mention low voltage

Anyhow it means the engine can be swapped now :cheesy:

Bollocks, it means the car's even more needy, it's something else to go wrong at the worst possible moment and force you through another wallet-emptying session[/pessimist]

It would be good if either could keep the car going in the event that the other goes tits-up. What's the capacity on the 2nd battery Frank?

Errr, you're doing what now? I thought the 2.2 was a going concern or is it just a sparesmobile?

Well done. 8)
Guess that there 2nd battery is to stop the BSI throwing a wobbly when the starter current drags the starter battery volts down.
'Our' 807 was prone to that - maybe now I know why.
