Q: Not so MFD to a actual MFD? (Fitted, works, but slow af)

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Q: Not so MFD to a actual MFD? (Fitted, works, but slow af)

Post by 406Break »

Hi,

I have the most basic MFD in my 406.
It displays nothing but:
time
witch door is open
temp(if i had a sensor)
radio inf(if i had factory stereo)
and ECO MOD

Can I install a MFD that shows a little more info?

So you want trip data, fuel consumption, stuff like that? You might want to watch this https://youtu.be/yjZa7ummE94

So your saying that it's a simple display swap plus a wiper stalk or button? (if it's activated via PP2000)

This is what FP found on his HDi90 spares car, I've no idea if your car will be the same but it must be worth pulling off the stalk, locating those wires and seeing if anything comes up on the display if you short them.

Yeah, cheked the wiring by the wiper stalk, it has two pins less than the connector.
Next problem is the type a display. Only one row and it really does nothing more then show witch door is open or what time it is.
I need a mfd that is capable of showing more than time and if it works then awesome, if not then i need someone with pp2000...

Does it make any difference if the mfd is from a petrol or diesel model?

No difference, but later ones have a different feed from the radio stalk which needs PP2000 to sort out.

Is there a scrapyard near you that has a 406 in it - maybe find a type B display (which is the next one up from yours) for a fiver and see if it works....

There are 2 connectors behind the MFD, a black one and a white one, I haven't figured out why though.

Yes, need to mark the trip computer as 'present' using the BSI ECU menu, configure, customer options...
Don't forget you may need the stalk too, it's an easy swap if your cars are pre 2000 year.

Yay. Got my trip comp. enabled.
Is it normal that it doesn't show current consumption when driving below 30kph?

The diagnostics guy said something about programming the display itself... thinking it only applys to the type-c display?

Now to change the mirrors. So i could see the outside temp also.
