Airbag light on

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Airbag light on

Post by Matcoupe80 »

The airbag light is constantly on, I have scanned it with my diagnostic and it comes up with drivers 2nd squib at fault.. All the connections under the seats look like they have be soldered.. Any ideas? I've read it could be the clock spring? Is this part of the com 2000 or can I get it separately. Thanks

It's either the clock spring in the comms unit, or its one of the 2 connectors on the driver's airbag ( 2 in later cars - trigger 1 and trigger 2 )
The soldered ones under the passenger seat is a good thing, those connectors are rubbish - solder fixes it.

Thanks for the reply.. I'm guessing that the clock spring is part of the com 2000? Or can I replace just the spring unit? When you say airbag connections, would cleaning them up help? Thanks

They may not be connected properly, they need to be a good connection.
It's possible to replace just the spring, but it's not something I could do without making it worse.
The comms can be repaired yourself by watching YouTube clips, or a chap called Graeme can fix it if you send the unit off to him - costs about £30.
