'51 reg hdi estate radio aerial.

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

'51 reg hdi estate radio aerial.

Post by PeterN »

My radio intermittently ceased functioning which I eventually found was caused by water ingress into the aerial. Its mounted at the back and not very easy to get at without damaging the headlining. I tried to unscrew the whip but it had seized solid onto the base with the result that the aerial came off but left the spring on the base, it seems to be screwed into a female thread as there are two 8mm nuts - or is it all one, any way I exerted as much force as possible but they wouldn't separate.

I removed the base but you can only get so much movement as the wires are not very long, it has two wires, a very thin coax and a separate one which I assume is a 12v feed as it look as though it contains a pre amp. I compared it with my other one which although also at the rear was a different, I checked the scrap one in the field which was no good at all as the aerial was at the front, and that was seized up too.

There don't seem to be any bases available, presumably as they are not very easy to change, can anyone offer any suggestions?

Thanks

You mean the threaded part of the aerial mast broke off? hmmm :frown: Maybe by drilling the left in bit out you can at least use the base again. A new aerial seems to be well available and not so expensive, see e.g. http://www.eurocarcare.net/radio-aerial ... -rear.html @ £7.50.

According to ServiceBox it is part no. 6561GP; i could find it new at http://www.original-teile-shop.de/a/cit ... troen).htm for € 65.00 plus € 17,90 for shipping to Great Britain. Not exactly cheap...

Alternative at e-bay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Citro ... 2205960911 , also pretty expensive at £80.00.

Local scrap yard otherwise?

Thanks for that although I don't intend to spend that much - I will listen to CDs. The ebay one is not the correct one any anyway. I had decided I would have to go the scrapyard route. The problem is that the rear mounted aerial has the leads attached to it so to replace it I will have to cut and join them, not difficult with the single one but difficult to make a good joint with coax without letting noise in.

We are going to the North of Scotland in a few weeks, I have just changed the cambelt but still have a few other jobs to do so it's going to have to wait until we come back.

Thanks for your research anyway

Peter
