Hello everyone.
So, another woe in my 'Logbook'.
A couple weeks ago I took the car into a local Peugeot Dealer for a repair on the AC. All good with that, the AC now works flawlessly.
Trouble is, someone there 'apparently' dropped my keyfob and it 'apparently' started triggering the central lock at random. So, their solution was to 'apparently' remove the battery and, since the keyfob had the plastic button missing, they 'apparenly' also removed the microswitch in the circuit board.
(...note my liberal use of the word 'Apparently'...)
After a stern convo with the chief of operations there, they claimed that, not only they couldn't prove that the key wasn't already faulty, but they also couldn't provide a new 'working' keyfob since (quote) "these remotes are no longer fabricated"...
I realise that the 406 is an 'old car'... having been launched in 1995, and this D8.5 is creeping up on 17 years...
But I can't help but being a little bit 'miffed' at this reply from an official dealer...
Anyone knows if this is true, and if these keys 'really' can't be replaced... ?

Re: Getting New Remote Key
It depends on which key you have I'm afraid, if it's the later chunky type these are still available over here but there shockingly expensive
If you have the earlier teardrop shaped one then that is no longer available, ebay is the only way
Thing is I am still having problems getting mine to work, so I can't be any more help than that I'm afraid
One thing,
over here we have people on ebay offering key repair services, as long as your PCB is ok & intact they can fix the rest
I've had one of these done & was very happy with it.

Re: Getting New Remote Key
These kind of things are exactly the reason why i'm not bringing my car to the dealer any more.
Dealers are good for new cars, where there is essentially nothing more to be done than reading the oil dipstick every now and then, and filling up the windscreen wiper fluid. During the factory warranty period they are there to replace the parts that the factory has recalled. As long as they can do it for free without voiding your warranty that is all fine.
Dealers are useless for old cars. They often break more than they repair.
If i'd be in your situation, i'd go an look for a key of a scrapped 406 of the same model. You can "learn" that key into your car using the PP2000 software.
Note that if you start learning one (replacement) key, you must learn them all. So if you have a spare, you'll also have to learn that as well within the same learning session.

Re: Getting New Remote Key
I thought so too, but I mislaid my spare key then lost synch with the remaining one when changing the car battery.
Got the PIN & got it to 're-learn' the key.
Several years later found the spare key and hey presto - it worked too.

Ah, so you don't have to re-learn them all. That is good to know!
