406 Aerial Mounting
The roof mounted Aerial on my 2001 406 2.2Hdi GTX has snapped off externally. I presumed that I could undo it from inside via the centre rooflight cluster. Having removed the cluster I could see the base of the aerial, it has a small cylindrical 'pot' with the coax entering it from the left side. How do I get the thing disconnected? Do I need to replace the whole lot including the 'pot' and coax? or can I just get an aerial and mounting and fit it to the existing 'pot'? The whole thing looks difficult to access eg. the sunroof mechanism is partially blocking the way.
Grateful for any help.

To remove the base, pull the coax and when you get about 6 inched into the cable, you'll see a coax joint that you can undo. Then the cable can spin round as you undo the nut.
But you can just change the aerial itself, it's a screw on fit. I had difficulty unscrewing mine, but it does come off.

Thanks for the info Neil. Due to my non technical background I require some clarification. When you say that I need to disconnect the Coax and then undo the nut, which nut are you referring to? As said, when I observe the aerial base through the roof light cluster, I can see a cylindrical 'pot' which is presumably attached to or covering the base of the aerial mounting.
Is this an amplifier of some sort or is it the nut you are referring to? Do I have to remove it to get at a nut? It is entirely possible that I am not looking at the right item so please excuse my ignorance if thats the case!!

Pidge, where's it snapped by? As Neil says, the aerial "whip" itself just unscrews from the base externally, so maybe you can just change that. Much easier than changing the base.
If in doubt about anything, take a couple of photos. It's much easier to explain things when we can see what you're talking about

Thanks Dai, the Aerial has snapped off flush with the roof not on the whip part, I wish it was, I would'nt have such a problem!!
I therefore have to dismantle it from inside, which is where I have the problem. I was expecting to see a retaining nut of some sort, instead I found the items which I'v previously described and noted that the access to the aerial base is partly obscured by the sunroof mechanism.
It must be a fairly tricky job to get in there and do the job!

Cheers Benner, unfortunately it is the Aerial Mount that has snapped off (flush with the roof). It happened as I was trying to alter the angle of the Aerial.
As Dai has indicated, I need to take photo's of the external & internal views to make more sense to you people trying to help.
I will try, however in the meantime any ideas would assist!

The Aerial saga has ended. I obtained an Aerial Mount from my local stealer for approx £3.50 + VAT. I asked them how much to fit it (due to it being fairly difficult to get to), they quoted half an hour @ £44 + VAT. Though I'm not very numerate, I realised that they must charge over £100 inc VAT per hour!! I went home and fitted it in 10 minutes.[/align]

A while ago, I fitted a new base and sting to my D8 with AC and Auto-Wipers, shortly afterwards, I fitted another to a colleagues D8 with SR and manual wipers - I actually found the SR model gave much easier access !
Put a bit of sillicone sealant on the inside of the base just to make sure, and dogged it up. A really straightforward job.
I don't mind paying someone else ( not stealers though ) to do a mucky job, or where a lift and proper tools would work better, but things like replacing mirrors / ariels etc.. I do myself !

I was just put off when I had a look through the interior light cluster and could'nt figure out how to remove what looked like a cylindrical housing to get at the nut which was inside it!
The housing turned out to be an amp of some sort (I guess), which had a press fit cap. I eventually removed the cap with some snipe nosed and voila! there was the nut. I have now obtained a cheap Haynes manual from E Bay which will hopefully iron out any future saga's
