1.9 TD LX Estate ....niggles!
hi all
Only new to the site as i have just bought a 1999 1.9TD Lx estate. Its a great car and I am really impressed ,so far anyway!
I have only found a few niggles which I think is reasonable enough for a car of this age and mileage (122000)
1 The radio info screen is practically black and impossible to read
2 The fuel flap doesn't spring out
3 The A/C is not producing cold air
4 Occasionally the engine is reluctant to fire for a moment, then it goes ok
I hope to sort them all out but I completely stumped by the radio screen so if any of the experts on here have any ideas i would appreciate their help.
Thanks

Welcome to the site!
Blown bulb(s). Do a search on the forums and you'll find all the info you need to fix thisdavy90 wrote:1 The radio info screen is practically black and impossible to read
Broken spring? I'm due to fill up in the morning so I'll see if I can see any obvious breaking point then.2 The fuel flap doesn't spring out
With luck it'll just need a re-gassing. The monkeys at kwik-fit may be able to help, or they'll tell you if you've got a leak3 The A/C is not producing cold air
No idea :/ Can you be a bit more specific as to the conditions this happens under?4 Occasionally the engine is reluctant to fire for a moment, then it goes ok
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
Thanks for replying mjb
I will go through the forums and check out the blown bulb thing, I thought it was a LCD type screen!
There appears to be something broken on the fuel flap so I may just have to get a new one
I got a friend to run a diagnostic computer on the car and it showed that the heater plugs were faulty so if I change them it should sort out the starting glitch

The LCDs are just the same as in digital watches except reversed and with a dark red filter in front which means you need lighting behind it in order to see it.davy90 wrote: will go through the forums and check out the blown bulb thing, I thought it was a LCD type screen!

they pre-heat the swirl chamber when the engine is cold, does it only happen from cold?

Hi
The car hasn't even coughed since I talked about her !! I think she was a bit reluctant to fire up only when the engine was cold.I have got a set of plugs anyway so I will fit them and spoil her a bit.
The radio screen !! I removed the radio and had a look to see if I could replace any wonky bulbs.Sorry I feel like a complete numpty because I cant even get the front off the Philips head unit. Just as a matter of interest I can read the screen very easily if i shine a torch on it!!!
I am quite impressed with the car ,I think she could do with a few more horses but she is comfy and lovely to drive

you cant replace the bulbs that are WITHIN the radio, you end up breaking the radio, if you have the seperate display then you can change those bulbs, so unfortunatley you need a new radio, ive got a spare one if you want
