testing HDi cooling fan function

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

testing HDi cooling fan function

Post by pondweed »

hi. wondering whether there is a practiced method for testing function of the 2? cooling fans. Car on 130k. I presume low speed may be actuated on power up of Air Con, but wondering whether there is a trinary switch or something that can be shorted to test other speeds. not aure how many there should be, but have seen that resistors are a problem.

Is there an area anywhere where tech details like this are stored/stickied?

The fans are controlled by 3 relays to supply power in series (half speed) or parallel (full speed). The relays are controlled by a "bitron" ecu in the NS wing iirc and there's a circuit diagram in the Haynes manual. That's all I know.
