Smoking ?
I'm thinking of taking up smoking but my cigarette lighter does not work. It used to work, but when I was poking around inside it trying to make the lighter fit a bit tighter, there was a little spark and then it died.......should have used a plastic screwdriver ! I checked it with my multimeter and there is no power. I've checked all the fuses in the panel under the right of the dashboard and they are fine.
Actually I don't need it for smoking, but for the portable Sat Nav that I use to find my way home.
I've tried to pull the socket out of the console, but it seems to have a bulge on one side (bulb?) so it won't pass through the round hole
Any ideas about other fuses, i.e. a line fuse somewhere or anything else which may assist. (No I don't have a mains charger for the Sat Nav !)
Thanks

Off the top of my head it's a 10A fuse that is one of the 2 or 3 which can be installed in 2 different positions (so you can choose to have it on or off with ignition off). top row, about 10 from the left

Fuses
Thanks for the information, I bet I pulled the fuse out to check it and then replaced it in the wrong set of sockets so that when I ran a meter over the Lighter Socket with the ignition off, there was no power. I'll test it with the ignition on !mjb wrote:Off the top of my head it's a 10A fuse that is one of the 2 or 3 which can be installed in 2 different positions (so you can choose to have it on or off with ignition off). top row, about 10 from the left

As someone who frequently runs "stuff" from the lighter socket (gps charger, phone charger, inverter, etc) I've found it a lifesaver to have it cut out with the ignition off...

Socket power off or on
That's interesting, I'm of the opposite opinion, I often leave things charging from the socket overnight in my garage. I guess your lifesaver comment is based on experience of discharging the car battery, but that seems unlikely unless you were running a telly from the inverter?mjb wrote:As someone who frequently runs "stuff" from the lighter socket (gps charger, phone charger, inverter, etc) I've found it a lifesaver to have it cut out with the ignition off...

Re: Socket power off or on
Bring back starting handles I say then we will never get stuck with a flat battery, just the occasional broken or dislocated thumb! My car is automatic so no chance of bump-starting but I think it is fitted as standard with a stonking great battery.mjb wrote:I have a very weak batteryDumbclutz wrote:That's interesting, I'm of the opposite opinion, I often leave things charging from the socket overnight in my garage. I checked the fuse and like you said, it has a two way socket so I changed the position and lo! the lighter glows and the phone charges even with the ignition off.
