Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Bit Confused

Post by chill3r »

Hi People

as the topic says i'm kinda confused about something with my 406

when i bought it the guy explained to me that the keyfob didnt work and everything runs off the key etc - i dont have to put a code in - he advised that it didnt need one and he didnt have one anyway

the car drives and everything works ( apart from the A/C LCD Screen)

i'm just wondering if everything should be ok - dont wanna be out far and i cant get back home   - also wondering if anybody else has this setup key only

wouldnt mind trying to get the keypad and fob working - but a little scared incase i mess things up

There are two basic variants of the 406 and three basic key types:

D8

Two button remote key combined with coded panel. Big button locks/unlocks; the little button activates deadlocks.

On my D8 the remote had a fault and did not work - had to do the doors the old fashioned way

D9 - Key type 1

Key looks and functions like a D8 key but has a coded chip in it.

My current D9 has this style of key.

D9 - Key type 2

Key looks and functions differently. The big button locks the small button unlocks. It also has a coded chip in it.

To be able to answer your question a bit more info would be helpful. What year is you 406?

96 P = D8

There was a thread covering the imobiliser without code on this board.

It was something like. Put in code; start engine; unplug keypad; no more codes :cheesy:

It seemed to be safe.

not on a diesel, there are two other ways, a bit of rewiring, not recommended or remove the pump, drill out the stop solenoid shield, cut out the immobiliser unit and run a 12v ignition fed supply to the stop solenoid
