deadlocks not working

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

deadlocks not working

Post by jameslunt »

right does anyone have any ideas what this could be beofer i go and get loads of new locs etc and do a trial by deduction/error mrthod of fixing my car!

the deadlocks will not work, the central locking will work off the button on the key as normal but the deadlock will not.

any ideas on what could be causing this or if a failed motor would stop the lot from doing anything?

forgot to mention the car is a 2001 2.2 hdi exec (the car is pre multiplex tho as it has the older style phase 2 stalks not the coms 2000 items)

Hiya mate, maybe a stupid suggestion, but are you sure you're testing it with the deadlocks "engaged"?. This is just the benefit of past experience  .

On the phase 1 406 you had to lock it using the big button then press the small button to activate the deadlocks...
On loads of other cars (including the wife's fucus) you lock it with the lock button then press the same button again to activate the deadlocks.
But on my phase 2 406 you lock it by pressing the big button once, this locks and deadlocks it, if you press the button again immediately you get more "locky" noises, but that's actually the deadlocks disengaging. I spent the first couple of months undeadlocking it every time....

That don't sound right Dai. Have you confirmed this with the 'window down' test where you reach in to see if you can open the door from the inside?

On my 1999 phase 2 I have the big button and then the small one which deadlocks and sets the alarm (which then goes off shortly after).

i dont know if it would be the same on the D9 but on my D8 when i deaslocked the doors the windows would close automatically so the only way to test it was to have the missus sitting inside the car . she didnt find it as funny as me when i left her in there for 10 minutes and went inside  women eh , no sense of humour :cheesy: :cheesy:

No window closing for me

The drivers door could be opened by reaching through the window with 'normal' locking but it wouldn't open on deadlock. The rear doors can't be opened through the window in any way.

i have not tried to open from inside, the small button does not do anything at all when pressed on either key. this is the second 406 i have owned ( also have numerous other peugeots so i do know how to opperate the deadlocks, but thanks for making sure ;)

i suspect there to be a faulty mechanism or something along those lines as the only way to activate the deadlocks is to press the small button within approx 10 seconds of locking the car but nothing is happening.

Yeah we've discussed the different types of keys before some time back haven't we? IIRC yours looks like a "D9 key" but behaves like a D8 key :?

My key is deffo big button lock & small button unlock. Big button press 1 locks and deadlocks, press 2 undeadlocks it, I know, I just tested it (but when you open it from inside the alarm goes off - don't think I've ever heared that siren before, it's loud! )

Try the other method to apply the deadlocks - use the key :cheesy:

Lock the doors and hold the key in the "lock" position, there will be a second locking noise as the deadlocks engage.

Automatic window closure existed on the D8, but not the D9. Apparently the D9's windows open to let heat out. There was a thread ...

holding the key doesnt work.

is there any additional components for deadlocks rather than just the motors?
