Should the 12v socket be illuminated?
I have noticed (dark nights) that my 12v socket, or Cigar Lighter, does not illuminate even though I thought it should have an orange 'ring' around it.
If it should light up, can it be fixed with a new bulb? and how do you get the thing out?

Re: Should the 12v socket be illuminated?
Oh oh i wanna answer this one!!
YES.
I only know this because when removing my phone charger the other night the light went out... now it doesnt come on at all and the power isnt getting to it. dodgy connection me thinks.
The light should come on with the headlights.
No idea on how to get it out though.

Re: Should the 12v socket be illuminated?
I wrote a nice little HOWTO on removing the cigarette lighter socket... guess it got lost in the forum hacking
Basically:
lever out the ashtray
unclip the gearstick gaiter and pull it over the stick
put it in 3rd
reach under the socket and disconnect the 2 connectors (one 2-pin for power, one 1-pin spade for light)
rotate the metal bit of the socket anticlockwise then pull it up through the orange plastic bit
you can then get at the bulb

Re: Should the 12v socket be illuminated?
I kinda answered one of the questions! Ok, it wasnt really a question. But I answered it. Do I get points for that?

Re: Should the 12v socket be illuminated?

Mine's in the centre console bit as its a D8.

Re: Should the 12v socket be illuminated?
I think the socket is in the same place on the D8 and D9.
I shall have a looky at breaking it/making it worse this weekend then
Thanks m, and Tiny, for the replies.

Same place D8 or D9. It helps if you have 10" long fingers...
