What is economy mode?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

What is economy mode?

Post by ed209 »

The host of electrical problems that I have encountered with my d9 in the last week are reminding me of a mark 3 Ford Escort I had years ago. Like can there be any more faults!!

In the last week;
Low brake fluid level = handbrake switch :frown:
Speedo needle flickering randomly :o
rain sensing wipers going so fast i fear the arms may fall off, in the slightest drizzle :roll:
front passenger window stopped working :x
and then this; the display screen (time/radio/temp) went blank for about 10 mins, and when it came back on flashed ECONOMY MODE for about 10 seconds before displaying what it should!! :!:

What is economy mode? Should I expect a high number of electrical faults with a d9? :?:

If, underlining the word if, I´m right the so called Economy Mode activates when the car is sort of making sure that there will be enough juice in the battery for next start.. :wink: I get that every time I´m picking up my old lady from work and listen to the radio when the car´s not running. It comes on after about 20 mins of listening and it shuts down the radio. Once you turn the car on and off again, you get another 20 mins... :cheesy:

It should be, then again was the car running at the time?

I'm not sure about a higher number of faults on the D9, just when you get them they'll be a hell of a lot more expensive to fix :(

Yes, it is linked to battery power. Your car has been stood around has it not? now you're straight into lights, heater, rear screen, testing stuff etc. The battery may recover by itself here.
