fuel gauge (or lack of)

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

The float's fallen off the end of the sender?

That sounds like a regular day for me and the V6 :cheesy:

Actually, looking at haynes, there's only one feed, so presumably the light isn't a separate contact but put up by the dash ecu when the gauge drops. The sender is also part of the fuel pump ( ) so not something you want to mess with without checking owt else first. Apparently, you can get to the pump through a cover under the back seat, I'm still not sure about the wiring though, Haynes is typically vague. I think the best you can do is pull the connector off, then turn the ignition on and see if the light still shines, if it goes out then it's the sender, if it stays on then it could be anywhere!

Bluddy overcomplicated cars, maybe I should give up and buy a horse...

well i just started the car in the warehouse and the gauge very slowly went up to the half way mark and now when i switch off and on it goes to that mark and i can see the needle very slightly swaying..strange.
however when i gave the top of the dashboard a good thump the fuel gauge illumination went out along with the door open light and the headlight on indicator and they all came back on with another thump  .
french wiring eh

I'm down to 300 miles for £70 of fuel... erk.
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang
