Oxygen sensor wiring..

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Oxygen sensor wiring..

Post by cthulhu »

I want to install a lambda gauge so obviously i need to splice into the o2 sensor signal wire.. now I can see where the loom comes up from the sensor and plugs in above the gear box, and if I take out the airbox and flex pipe I can even reach the plug but I can't get the bugger undone, and I can't reach to solder or crimp it in place.

Short of getting under the car is there an easier way? Does anyone known which bundle of wires snaking through the engine bay holds the wires from the sensor?

The problem with that approach is working out which wire within the loom you want. I've only seen numbers printed near the ends.

you need to lift the red tab up with a small screwdriver and then it pulls out

That's easy enough if I could narrow down the 4 o2 sensor wires, but i think they change the wire colour after the plug itself.

That sounds damn near impossible from the top of the engine bay, but I'll have another go at it. Thanks.

colour's not that important. if you know which number wires you're after, you could open up the ECU plug and look for them there, then tap into them just outside the plug, it's what I did on my trip computer mod

The only reason I mention colour is because the signal wire on the sensor plug is grey, but that doesn't help me if it becomes blue or bright orange after the plug on the way to the ECU ;)

I didn't think the ECU plug came apart :? definately worth a go. thanks.

When your car's got an engine bay as mucky as mine, you tend not to pay much attention to colour - it's all dark grey ;)
