Battery Symbol & Beep!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Battery Symbol & Beep!

Post by skylinemv »

Hi everyone, I have a really annoying fault with my 406 HDI 2.0.

It is a 1999 T Estate and I have had it a few months with no issues until now.

The battery symbol comes on after 5 miles beeps alot but not at idle only moving, then disappears.

The alternator puts out 13-13.5V on load or off load.

The only interesting bit is when it is bleeping the fan goes very slow and speed varies. Lights radio etc okay.

The alternator is brand new the belt looks tired but not slack, and the battery is probably the original.

Hope someone can help :) :cheesy:

Hi there. Umm, I suppose you could start by looking at the battery & alternator connections.

I forgot to mention all connections are good.

I will order a new belt as soon as I can find out which compressor is on thecar, apparently Peugeot need to know this.

I believe its the belt but you never can tell.

I had the old two belts discussion from Peugeot dealer.

K6 LE 1750 - Sedan Compressor

K6 LE1740 - Delfin Compressor

not suer=e the spelling is correct.

Anyway at £17.42 +vat I went to my Part Co after reading the "1750 x 6pk" off of the belt and got one for £10

So hope to fit it and see if the fault goes away.

Have you tried disconnecting the battery & doing a bsi reset? Sounds illogical but I've read on here about some really weird problems which have been resolved by doing this.

I'd suspect it's defective

Well the battery symbol and beep goes off after a longer run so its battery charge time then new battery!

Will look into the bsi reset, thanks for pointing it out. 8)
