Heating/Aircon - Replacement of Bulbs?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Heating/Aircon - Replacement of Bulbs?

Post by STALLED »

Hey!

Was just wanting to know how to change and replace the bulbs behind the controls off a D8 406 (Non Climate) and what sized bulbs do they take?

It's not urgent that it gets done....just thought it would be nice to have a fully lit dash for once :)

Thanks heaps!

If the bulbs are the same as the ones in the dash - they should cost about 21p each (what the local main stealers charged me)

They come in four different varieties

A bulb in a BLACK holder -or- a bulb in a WHITE holder

And then you can the above without the holder (21p) - you need to pull the old bulb out carefully from the old holder (I use my teeth!!) and pop the new one in.

I'm afraid I can't help with the removal of the control facia - (I've only replaced the bulbs in the dash) - but thought I'd tell you about the different bulbs available

The bulbs are part N83CF from maplins - £1.99 for 2, about the same price from Halfrauds, or you can buy them individually from the stealers for twice the price (mine only sells them with the holder). You'll want to replace all the lights at the same time because it's a royal pain to get to.

1) Take out the trip computer/temperature display/radio display/shelf (dependent on trim level) sitting next to the hazard light switch. Just lever it out gently from the bottom using a flat screwdriver and unplug it (there's a little clip in the middle of the plug)
2) Pop out the end cap to the left of the hazard light switch
3) You should now see 4 torx screws. Remove them.
4) Pull the panel out, disconnecting the hazard switch, windscreen switch, any other switch.
5) Pull the radio out and unscrew the 2 torx screws at the top of the hole
6) You can now pull the heater/ac panel out and change the screws. Just turn the holders about 90 degrees anticlockwise to free them, pull the bulbs out of the holders and replace. You may need a small pair of pliers/tweezers to help you here if any are recessed.
7) Switch the lights on to check it's all good. Make sure nothing electrical's touching anything metal of course
8) The above in reverse

See why you want to replace all the lights? :)

I wonder why mine stealer is so cheap?!? I've just double checked an invoice from the back end of last year and I got 5 (sans holders) for £1.05?!?
