STARTING PROBLEMS (DIESEL)

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

STARTING PROBLEMS (DIESEL)

Post by ZED »

hi wonder if anyone can help.

my dads car wont start, initially we thought it might be the immobiliser.

the car turns over but just doesn't fire up

the immobiliser shows only a green led after you type the code in and, when you try to start the car there is a clicking in the engine bay,is this the fuel pump opening?

is there any sure fire way of checking if the immobiliser is working

or

does anybody have any idea what the problem could be

I think there is a way to by-pass having to type the code in as many keypads get worn over the years and play up this may be what's happening. The clicking could be the fuel cut solenoid not knowing whether to open or close because of an electrical fault.

I don't know how you do the by-pass but someone like mjb on here will know cos he's done it. Something about pressing C1C or something. Basically each time you go to ignition you won't have to put the code in. This may or may not solve the problem but it would be a good starting point for you.

I drive the later D9 model with no keypad!

Sorry for the mundane questions but the car is definitely turning over? You'd get a click from the starter solenoid, have you tried jumping it in case there's not enough juice in the battery?
