Dodgy Dash

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Dodgy Dash

Post by Parish »

The speedo and rev counter have a mind of their own, they like to stay at 2.500rpm and 40mph when ever im going anywhere untill i give the top of the dash a few quick headbutts then its starts working properly, only for them to return back th there desired position later on when im not looking.

Is my display just shagged or is it something simple as this is really starting to bug me now

Any help would be much appreciated

I've no real idea but you could try pulling out the dash and re-seating the connectors, maybe give themn a clean with a bit of fine emmery too.

Re-solder all the joints on the dash cluster while you've got it out.
While you're there, you'll notice a flat cable which is clamped to the pcb with a comb shaped metal strip. A couple of the prongs weren't applying enough pressure which caused me some strange faults; remove it and slightly bend in the prongs; watch you don't damage the flat cable though!

The knowledgebase would be better and I think it's up to us to pick them out, rather than give poor Nick the huge job of finding them, maybe a thread to propose them and then we can agree on whether they're useful enough.

Anyone else think a wiki might be a good idea?

Yes I do, but for starters we could get the knowledge base going! You've written some good guides Matt, we'll have to pester the mods to copy them over
