70 Degress!!
Im sure (hope) that this is something simple but the car thinks the outside temp is 70 degrees! The climate control fans are on full when its on auto (i asume because it thinks its boiling outside?).
What is needed/how much would it cost to get this fixed?
Cheers!!!

Re: 70 Degress!!
The outside temp display and the air con shouldn't be related, the sensor for the outside is in the passenger (I think, mine's lhd and it's on my side) door mirror, the temp sensor for the air con is in the overhead console (it's a little fan with a thermistor in it which, according to Pug's prices, must be made out of platinum and precious stones). I think the outside temp sensors sometimes give insane readings:
Looks like it's a gonner

Cheers, will pop to Pug on monday and order a new sensor!
Ill also monitor the climate control to see what happens now its got cooler and maybe give that headliner fan a blow with some compressed air.

Re: 70 Degress!!
Careful now! I ordered up a new one for my D9 (still worked, just very noisy) expecting it to only be £20 or so, it was nearly £60!

Re: 70 Degress!!
I had exactly this on mine. I replaced the outside temp senser in the near side wing mirror (about £11 from the stealer) and it has all worked fine ever since. The main dealer said that there are several sensers that work the climate control. One in the foot well, one in the wing mirror, one above the interior mirror and one some where else. Maybe in the engine bay but I not sure now.
This sensor is worth the £11ish as my climate control has been perfect ever since. You are supposed to pull the old cables through the door conduit but I did not bother just cut and joined which has been fine.
Hope this helps,
Richard.

Re: 70 Degress!!
The interior sensor is just that - the interior! the climate control also needs to know what the temp is outside and also sunlight intensity (that little purpleish dot on the dash near the screen).
A duff external sensor will make the fan go mad. I'd replace the wing mirror sensor like Busman said.

Temp sensor in the passenger side wing mirrorBusman wrote:The main dealer said that there are several sensers that work the climate control. One in the foot well, one in the wing mirror, one above the interior mirror and one some where else.
Temp sensor in the passenger footwell under the soundproofing near the centre console
Humidity sensor in the front courtesy light unit (behind the little slots)
Sunlight sensor (centre of the dash between the windscreen heater vents)
One in the vent system itself, which I think is accessible through the drivers side footwell with the lower fascia removed
The latter lets the cc know when the air's up/down to temperature - that's why when you get in the car on a particularly hot or cold day, the fans stay at a low level for a while before they wind up to full power
The 406 climate control is impressively complex for a 1996 car, and surprisingly robust too

<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

Re: 70 Degress!!
Local Pug dealer has the sensor in stock, am picking it up later and will fit this evening. (£15.33 all in).
Is there a special 'knack' for getting the wing mirror glass out?
Thanks
James

Re: 70 Degress!!
Yes.
Remove the coloured panel at the back of the mirror. Prise it gently off and it pops off. Then you can see the back of the mirror, and some little metal clips. Release these, the mirror pops out and gives access to the screw that holds the sensor in.
...of course i only found this out after i had cracked the mirror slightly. See how much it annoys me, if not, off to the scrappy in the hope they have one as im sure a stealer will be blumming expensive!!
