unfixable 3 year old pugs?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

unfixable 3 year old pugs?

Post by 406silverhdi »

Talking to a guy today and he reckons that there are peugeots that are out there around 3 years old that are unfixable when a certain part breaks. the reason they are unfixable is you cannot get hold of the part for love or money

is he talking pish or does anyone know what this super rare part is?

Maybe not 3 year old ones (hold on, there aren't any three year old ones, they stopped production in 2003 :? ) but, given how cheap they're getting and the cost of replacing BSIs, diesel HP fuel pumps, lift pumps, injectors etc. they'll end up in the breakers a lot quicker than they used to.

I know where i live that if a pump goes on a HDI motor then your talking serious money... Hard to source as there is so much dodgy diesel floating around and the scrappers cant keep them for any length of time

Sorry, just assuming stuff there. You always hear about cars being off the road for a long time for lack of some part or the other but I don't think I've ever heard of a 3 year old car where you can't get a part ever. That would be a real drop off by the manufacturer for a 3 year old car barely out of warranty (and in some cases not) and they'd get sued into the stone age.

Sounds like pub talk to me

If it was true then the industry would have a field day and NOBODY would buy a Peugeot.

Car manufacturers will typically consider serious claims even over 5 years old. I know BMW have done this with their self-ingesting TD's and poor axle mount design on E46's. Even if they don't honor the whole claim they will honor 50-75% of it on a goodwill basis (because they have cocked up with the design). My neighbour has just had his 53 reg Merc M Class *fully* resprayed courtesy of Mercedes and had a free hire car for 3 weeks whilst they did it due to some rust blemishes appearing (hey, they all do that don't they!).

There's a lot of talk out there about manufacturers "coding" parts to your specific vehicle making it difficult for independant garages to replace anything that goes wrong as they won't (and can't) have the software to programme the new part to the car. I suppose this leads to some exageration of future car repairs etc. it would be true though, up to a point, that dealers would be able to charge whatever they feel once they'd "got you" under their care :|
