ABS light on

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

ABS light on

Post by markh »

Having a nightmare with this car. Just cured my Airbag warning light fault with a new Comms2000 and now my ABS light has come on whilst driving home this morning. Heard a clunk that sounded like it came from the right rear quarter then a few moment later ABS light came on, I'm not sure whether its related or not. Out of curiosity whilst I was driving I lightly applied the handbrake until its warning light came on, got a bleep and indicator on the radio display to tell me handbrake was on, then another bleep and the ABS warning light came on, related ?. read a few threads about wheel speed sensors and rusty discs etc, do I still have normal brakes ? any ideas folks

Maybe the clunk was something happening to the wheel sensor, seems a bit of a coincidence... You should still have normal brakes (just no ABS) but I wouldn't cane it until you knw what the problem is.

Most inner drum set ups don't take kindly to the shoes being yanked whilst moving, I know you said you only did it lightly but maybe somethings come adrift and took out the sensor (not that I know where the sensor is like) I know my shoes seem to suddenly snatch-in as soon as they touch the drums.

I applied the handbrake on an automatic Carlton Diplomat once at 15mph, never done that again since

Think the rears need stripping and inspecting.

Mine don't. I've got to pull HARD on a wet bend to get anything to happen...

Sorry, "snatch in" is the wrong description - I mean "something" grabs the drums (sounds all loose and broken) and then the wheels have *slightly* more resisitance than normal
