Steering wheel?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Steering wheel?

Post by linkjack »

Hey, i have a pug 406, 1.9 L DT model, love it to bits! was given to me by my mum, and a problem she had when she had is still recurring. Now im not sure how best to describe this, but it is surely wierd. Randomly, there is a constant ticking from either the dashboard or the behind the steering wheel. If u hit the steering wheel sometimes it will stop, or the dashboard, or flick all the indicators, lights, the lot, there is no way of stopping it everytime. Also, the car was sitting there for about a month, when i stared using the inidicators, smoke started coming out from behind the steering wheel, but now that has stopped but yeah im not sure what to do about it, or what it could be. Any suggestions? I know electronics myself so a way of saving money if its possible myself wouldbe greatly appreciated! Could it also tie into why my battery dies so much, or is it what I think it may be and the battery is just dieing?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Jack

Hi there Jack, welcome aboard. Umm, I'm not sure to be honest, can you pull the steering column shroud off and have a look? One worry is the ignition switch, which is there too, or maybe the airbag but I'd think you'd get some lights flashing for that one. Anything else giving you trouble?

hey. nothing else giving me troubles at all, and never had a problem with the ignition, thinking of pulling off the coloum and looking might find something but unfortunatly the car is SORN atm in a set of stables till i can afford to tax and insure her =] will let you know if i can see anything when i get round to going there. So am i right in thinking it could just be slight electircal? Thing that gets me is the clicking though......

and thanks for the welcome :-)

Me too, it's either mechanical (what though?) or electrical and seeing as how you had a cloud of smoke it's probably electrical. Still not sure what though, I think the only thing that can be done is get the shrouds off and take a gander. Even if you can't see anything, if you leave them off you might have a better idea where the clicking's coming from.
and thanks for the welcome :-)
