dash not working

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Sorry, that was a bit obvious but you'd be surprised... Umm, I take it all the panel lamps are going. Looking at the (probably largly inacurrate) diagram in Haynes, the temperature gauge is the only gauge on there that's not run by a lump of electronics and is fed off the same supply as the warning lighs - the electronic part has its own supply off of fuse 25 (knowing Haynes it's any fuse other than 25  ). Time to take a squint at your fuse panel.

Bugger :( How many power feeds did you find? I think you're looking for a supply issue here, ground would seem to be ok.

I'm going to suggest if both the dash plugs are connected ok, it's one of the harness connectors that has become disconnected. Take the drivers footwell fascia off and you should see a pile of connectors near the steering column. Check one hasn't come loose, otherwise I think the other likely place is beneath the battery tray
