Diagnostic sockets...

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Diagnostic sockets...

Post by MJBD8 »

Me and the old man both drive D8 1.9 Turbo diesels My dads is a 1996, mine is a 1998 yet the diagnostic ports are different.

I was toying with the idea of buying a cheap reader incase my luck runs out. Can any one tell me about them?

Dads is a female socket with pins inside it approx 1/2" wide 1 1/2" tall.

Mines a D shape.

Many thanks :?

yours is the OBD socket, the other one is known as Brown 32-Way, both are incompatable with the code readers you see on ebay, if you can find a TEP, an old peugeot diagnostic system, this will work, but they are as rare as rocking horse poo, otherwise you need a DIAG2000, or peugeot planet, both cost £££££
on the brown one there is a way to get the fault codes out by linking two of the pins togther, but i cant remember which

Couple of screen captures for you :)
They're not uploading in order for some reason, the bottom of this post is the first capture.

Bloody hell it's rare someone other than spammers resurrect such old threads, let alone the OP!

I don't think you'll have much luck with the diag socket - I've got an OBD-shaped one on my '98 D8 but can't seem to find any conclusive info on it. Not willing to blow £££ on an interface that won't work either
