Radio dispaly light fault!

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Radio dispaly light fault!

Post by Fuzzybear »

Hello all, i have just been gutting a dead (and rather poorly equiped) 406 diesel exec that me grandad had left in a field. Did still have a few of the goodies left in it such as the cd multi changer so went about fitting it. Also got part way through fitting an fm modulator when i noticed my radio display had lost its back light. No problem i though i have a spare i'll pop that in..... same problem. I have started checking the fuses in the fuse box to see if any have blown but havent found any yet. Any ideas as to what may have caused this? Cheers

I'm guessing it's a D8... There should be 2 lights in the display.

First thing to do it to try shining a strong light into it and see if you can see the readout.

Easy job, lever out the display and replace the 2 bulbs :)

Aye, about £1.50/ea from Halfords, or cheaper from Maplins. If the display is working, the tracks on the PCB for the lighting are pretty much guaranteed to be live :)

I wouldn't - the colour comes from the screen itself, probably the polarised filter needed to make the LCD visible. Putting a blue bulb in will result in the display being a muddy browny purple, not nice at all
