Things that causes Anti Pollution Fault???

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Things that causes Anti Pollution Fault???

Post by ukharper »

The antipollution faults came up as brake pedal switch & accelerator pedal sensor??? £22.80 plus VAT
How much for these parts then, & can I swap with breakers parts or is there more programming involved?
After a couple of further trips the message has returned.

Well, I took it to Auto Diesel Technics in Ulverston, Cumbria & it came up with Glow Plug Solenoid.
The EML is still out after a few days drives.

It cost me £290 for the Cambelt, Alternator belt, Oil & Filter change, 2 Droplink Arms(bushes) & clearing the EMLight.

I too had problems with the anti pollution fault idiot light on my 2001 2L HDI Rapier estate. It appeared after fueling when I had run the fuel level VERY LOW and then left the car out of use for a couple of months (should know better). I cured it by changing the fuel filter. The light came on intermittantly for a few days afterwards but eventually settled down.
Now; does anyone know anything about air con/heater auto fan controls?

The 407 has an anti pollution fault, 3 different mechanics suggest different things.
The first said it needed a new particulate filter and fluid as it wouldn't self purge.
(I drove it and purged and cleared it) :supafrisk: 8)
The second listened to the engine and said the horrible noise that sounded like the crank falling out was definitely in his opinion unburnt fuel.
The third (over the phone) said unburnt fuel has nothing to do with the AP fault and the noise is not caused by that.
However, a local cab driver says he's been told that every norty mechanic and his dog will try to scrue you for a new particulate filter when it's not needed for at least 250K
All that is needed is a litre of the anti pollution additive which retails at £36 a litre, it's the cause of most AP faults on the 407 (and 406 2.2 hdi) and the biggest rip off.
Allegedly. :supafrisk:

I spent a bit of time looking into this before I took the plunge & bought the HDi 136. I'm no expert, but I have managed to establish the following:
It doesn't 'know' the additive level, but calculates how much it has injected in the same way as the trip computer. If there's anything wrong with the additive injection it will still 'think' it's working.
If it thinks it's low on additive it will give a 'Diesel Additive Low' message or words to that effect. You can refill the tank, but you need Planet Peugeot to reset the additive counters.
If it thinks the FAP is blocked it will light up a blocked filter warning light.
It can be fooled into thinking the FAP's blocked by a faulty DPS, (Differential Pressure Switch), or loose pressure pipes.
It can't 're-generate', (purge), unless driven at over 50 mph for long enough to complete the process.
I've heard that faulty vacuum reservoir / pipes / valves can cause similar problems, though not certain of the mechanism involved, (probably prevents it swapping from intercooler to charge heater so it can't achieve a high enough exhaust gas temp. to regenerate).

Mine displayed 'Anti Pollution Fault' for a day or so, but cleared after changing the air filter.......

The noise you're talking about might because it's trying to regen - it injects fuel during the exhaust stroke so it can burn in the FAP and incinerate the accumulated particles.
