406 key 2 button

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

406 key 2 button

Post by andrew1608 »

I am trying to get a second key transponder but i am havin g very little luck in getting one off ebay at a reasonable price, i see on ebay there are some keys which have 2 seperate buttons one is to lock & the other to unlock, as apposed to mine having the main button to do both and the small button to with the deadlocks. Is it possible to have the diferent style of key programed to my rapier.

They're not 406 keys. With the 406 you have big button lock/unlock and little button alarm+deadlock, or you have the newer type which does everything on one button

AFAIK you can get the car coded to a key transponder, but the transponder can't be reprogrammed. When it comes to key PCBs they can be re-synced but not re-programmed without £50+VAT to the dealers. Then of course, the blade won't fit your ignition barrel...

If you need a new key, best get ready to pay about £150 to the dealers.

Eh? My '04 has two buttons - big one locks, small one unlocks. I'd still hold out for one that's the same as yours Andrew, it's more likely to work with your car. I'm no expert on these things (is anyone these days?) but I'd think it's possible you can get the transmitter part of another plip to talk to your car's central locking, a blade for it cut and, if you have the second key with no buttons on it, pinch the transponder out of that one.
