Which ODB II Cable?

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

D8s are generally not OBD compliant, even if the plug looks right. You're looking about £500 for a suitable pc-based diagnostic tool

God knows, but unless you've got the actual PSA Lexia diag interface (about £500) the software won't work

RIGHT - Either i'm REALLY stupid (which isn't that hard to imagine!) or i'm getting ripped off.

I have read through a few of the posts on here and came to the conclusion that I needed an ELM327 "unit" and the PCMScan software to read the error codes on my 1997 D8 2.0 16v 406, as it has the ODB interface......SO.... :?
I bought the ELM327 and downloaded the PCMScan software and installed it on my laptop (along with all the software supplied with the ELM), took it to the car with such high hopes.....
was dreaming of taking the 406 back onto the road after I had fixed all the problems shown up on the scan.........
BUT I COULDN'T GET THE BLOODY THING TO INTERFACE!!!!!

The software links with the ELM, and there are 'pulse' signals from the car but no data link between the software and the car

Can someone PLEASE help me......I'm on my knees (figureativly, i'd never get back up if I was!)

It's either this or does anyone want a 1997 2.0 LX?

HELP ME PLEASE!

D8s (and pre-multiplex D9s) MAY have an obd2 socket, but the ECU doesn't speak a standard protocol. You can either pay £lots for a compatible lexia interface and illegal software, or you can take it to the dealers and pay them to do the diagnostics. I believe the going rate at the dealers is about £60 on average

Hi, fancied resurrecting this one!

Does anyone have either a working link they might like to PM me for PP2000 or have a download they could host and link me to or post me a CD?

Also, been looking in ServiceBox today...
for my VIN I was browsing "Vehicle characteristics" - I was interested to see in the Engine Supply section:
"EOBD SELF-DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM - WITHOUT "EOBD" AUTO-DIAGNOSTIC"

Is this common with other HDI's? This sounds to me a likley reason why I've had trouble getting an ELM interface box to connect to the car as I hear mixed results from people who do and don't have ELM's working with HDI's.

Cheers
