multi function display problem

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

multi function display problem

Post by chucks1916 »

Hi Folks,

Quick question. I noticed recently my multi function display unit has dimmed quite dramatically in comparison to the usual brightnes it has. It is still working to an extent but as soon as it starts to get dark, it is impossible to read. Any suggestions for what I can do fix this or if it is fixable?

Cheers

Welcome Chuck! :)
It's probably the bulbs gone; if it's a D8 carefully lever the display out & you'll see two of them in the top; they're the usual dash jobbies.

D8 is 1996-1999, has a radiator grille like in my signature
D9 is 1999-2004, has a mesh grille

If yours is a D9 you need to unclip the panels either side of the display, unscrew the 4 torx screws, then pull the display out to get access to the 3 bulbs

nice one thanks. Its a 200 model. I got he panels off the other day but i am havign a bit of difficulty getting the screws out as they are slightly rutted. Any ideas the cheapest place to get bulbs for it ie is it a scrappy job or would it be cheap enough to buy them somewhere?
