Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Anti theft and energy saving mode

Post by TheSarge »

Hi all this is my first post with this forum I am a member of the 406 Coupe club
hope you can help me with my problems

2.2 406 coupe HDI Blue Diesel (2002)

Have just had Turbo replaced and brake servo by local garage when he tried to start it a key symbol appeared on dashboard and warning sign in display panel saying "anti theft device defective" so obviously car won’t start, then later another display saying “energy saving mode”

Battery is good checked and been on charge

Both key fobs checked batteries good, they now do not do anything except manually open close doors

4 Flashers work and the horn

Wipers don’t work or internal lights, radio

1,How do I get out of energy saving mode

2, How do I get out anti theft device defective

Any Ideas please

Ps running out of money fast

Start the engine. Sorry, I know it's not what you want to hear...

Good question. The usual symptom of a dead battery is "ELECTRONIC IMMOBILISER FAULT" so I don't think it's that this time. The only cheap things I can suggest is first try your spare key, then secondly have a look at the transponder aerial which is located around the ignition barrel. Give the steering column a whack around there to start with, but it maybe the case you need a new aerial, but if it's more than a few quid it may be worth getting it hooked up to a dealer's diagnostic system (not a cheap fault code reader - that'll just tell you what you already know) which may be able to say exactly what's up with it

If you're near Stoke I can shove it on diagnostics for you for the cost of petrol and a couple of cans of Stella

If you're only "running out", you're doing a lot better than a lot of us

As far as I know the only reset for 'Energy Saving Mode' is to start the thing but I'd try disconnecting the main battery for 30mins and trying again?

Failing this maybe a BSi reset procedure?

Anti-theft defective suggests the alarm is not happy, maybe due to the bonnet/doors being open so long and/or a failing main battery maybe. I'm sure it will recover all by itself tbh.
