Earth point location

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

Earth point location

Post by auldy »

Hi, I'm trying to locate the earthing point used by the cigar lighter, airbags, handbrake switch and the heated mirrors, electric windows. It is called E9 in the Haynes wiring diagrams and like two other earth points is located "LH front footwell"

Evidently wires head towards it from the passenger door and from the wire bundle by the handbrake. Does anyone who's had the carpets up in the front recently rembember the cable routes between those areas and where this point may be?

Problem is the lights, power and common wires going to my cigar socket are one molten bundle. I've replaced the power cable with another bit of wire (cut the original wire from fuse box output and replaced). The Earth wire (common) is somewhat ruined and I really want to take the whole melted mess out and replace it neatly.

I'm hoping that when I start to lift the front passenger carpet all will be revealed but these things never seem to go quite so well as hoped.

This is related to my headlight aim adjust issue (i think) which I am posting about seperatly...

Answering myself,

The location is called MC55 in pug wiring diagrams and is the termination point for M50D
It is the lower of two in the left hand front footwell, located where the floor starts to curve upwards at the front and to the far left hand side. just peel back carpet for access.
