Passenger fuse box easy question
I'm trying to sort some 'leccy problems in the car: headlight aim adjust is not working.
the roller switch gets no power - as such I am unsurprised that the lights don't move when i move the switch.
Could somone with *working* headlight aim adjust on their 406 please help me find out where the power comes from?
I suspect that fuse F18 provides power - does removing this fuse in your car stop headlight aim adjust working?
F18 is just marked switch illumination or something similarly vague. I know it provides power to the cigar and ash tray lighting and that power TO F18 is provided by the BSI when sidelights are turned on. In my car I can't install fuse F18 at the moment due to some melty wires near the cigar lighter. I can live without illumination of the ash tray and cigar lighter but if that needs sorting or chopping out to let the headlamp adjuster work then i'll get on and sort it.
If my guess is wrong but you know where the power for the adjuster comes from then I would love to know that instead please!

I see what you mean - there's sod all in Haynes about the aim adjustment - soon as I get a chance I'll try removing F18 and see if it stops them working.
As auldy says, even a partial diagram would be a big help if anyone's got access - I'm hoping to fit HID projectors and need to make the adjustment automatic....

I was toying with the idea of subscribing to service box for an hour - it's only 4 euros or so to see if there are any usefull wiring diagrams or technical documentation. Does anyone have or had access that could reccomend if the data on the site is worth paying for? I'd sign up now but I'm off to bed - maybe give it a go tomorrow.

thanks for the reply, er, I don't have that many fuses!
I've got about 28ish in the box under the steering wheel.
Fuses 20 and 21 do the side and tail lights in mine, I'll check them out but as all the lights work I suspect they're ok

Try it. Well, I've just spent a solid hour loking at wiring diags and saving what I could
In answer to my own questions in case it helps anyone else...
The system is simpleish.
rotary control -> pins 3,5,1 have two wires each, these head into the 'injun bay to connect the motors
the two motors are connected in parallel.
Fuse 18 in the passenger compartment is marked in the schematics as powering:
ESP switch (i don't have one)
cigar lighter (i think it means the lighting for it as the actual power comes from F23)
the multifunction screen (but F8 appears to actually do that?)
headlight level selector (yay)
there dosn't seem to be a power feed directly to the motors only via the switch...
on the switch(rotary control)
1,3 & 5 are accounted for (go to headlamps) - there's power, ground and a resistance/voltage that varies as you turn the selector.
pin 2 connect to wire M66 and heads off to EM40A - still have to run out to the car and check but that should be the earth.
pin 4 connect to wire VH18A towards IC11A (output of fuse 18 in the car)
I can't put a fuse in F18 due to the cigar lighting power wire being fused to the earth wire near the lighter socket.
I now see that VH18Z comes out of the fusebox to IC11A (a white 16 way connector under the drivers feet carpet)
from there VH18A heads to a join at EV18A where VH18D heads to the ashtray light and VH18E heads to the cigar lighter light.
VH18A actually connects to the headlight adjust switch directly so I either want to get to the connector IC11A under the drivers feet to disconnect the VH18A that heads off to light the ashtray etc or I want to pull up the carpets in the middle to remove the fused wire VH18E.
grr, arg, I'm off out to the garage with a bit of wire to stuff some power into the adjuster directly and see if my deductions are correct!

Well, pretty much everything I suggested was true, except the IC11A connector is black - not white...
The wire (VH18A) from the fuse went to the connector where on the female side it was terminated along with the other VH18A that headed off towards the middle of the car ready to split for the ash tray and cigar lighter. On the male side of the connector VH18A worked it's way back upto the headlight adjuster switch.
One amputation and I've now got working headlight adjusters, I can stop blinding people at night, yay!
Oh yeah, and I can second mjb's comments about the servicebox wiring diagrams, shitty interface, usefull data
