Headlight problem
I have a 2000 2l diesel pug and have a slight problem with my headlights. Last week the main beam died on the way home and I had to depend on my side lights (erm....the one thats not as bright as normal !!!). I've since replaced both bulbs but the offside main light doesn't work. I've swapped the bulbs around to confirm that it's not the bulb at fault.
Any ideas ?
Kind Regards

Hello there! I have this problem as well, replacing the nearside bulb made no difference. I've hunted for the fuse and only found the fuse box to the right in the engine bay. Where is the passenger fusebox? i've had a look and can't find it! I have a V reg 2000 406 HDi 90bhp
Many Thank you's

Under the dash to the right of the steering wheel; there's a panel that you pull down, you'll need a penny to turn the locking screw!Bandito wrote:Hello there! Re: Headlight problem
That's it yeah cheers! OK, i have found fuse 31 10amp which is the left dipped beam and found it to be ok. (checked with a multi meter as well) then i turned the headlight switch on and there was 12v there at Fuse 31. I then checked for power at the headlight socket where the bulb plugs into and there was nothing.
Has anyone got any ideas of where i can check next, any common bad connections?
Cheers

Re: Headlight problem
Not that I know of, I'm afraid the last guy that had this problem ended up running a wire from the other headlight - far from ideal! The diagram in Haynes is pretty useless, it only shows connections at the fusebox and headlamp. I'm not sure if this is the truth, mjb has some access to better diagrams so maybe he can see something I can't. I suppose the next place to look would be the connections to the fuse panel but I wouldn't fancy that -

Re: Headlight problem
That's exactly what i was thinkng of doing (running a fresh wire) but maybe from the fuse box I bet it would take less time to install this than hunt for the fault!!! Just to make sure tho is there no relay or IC in the way of the fuse and the bulb. A new wire sounds like the easiest and cheapest way of getting around the problem. At least taking the supply from the Left Dipped wont overload the right dipped. I haven't got a Haynes Manual yet, I'm eyeing one up on Ebay. So does anyone have a quick guide to removing the fusebox to check the wires behind. Has anyone had problems with the head light unit, or multi-connector into it?
Many Thanks.

Re: Headlight problem
Hi Guys,
Ive got exactly the same problem. I even bought 2 x new bulbs and tried them both on it ! Did anyone find out the answer ?
I also noticed that this may have happened before as the wires in the one that doesnt work are newer/different to the offside ones ! weird !
Thanks
Steve

Re: Headlight problem
There's meant to be some connectors under the battery somewhere, there's also this viewtopic.php?f=3&t=8726 where a member on the coupe forum has found a cable being chewed up on the abs support bracket - unfortunately the link doesn't work unless you join the coupe club so I'll be copying the details over later (when I have more time
)

Re: Headlight problem
My fault was an easy fix in the end, i was actually looking at the wrong bulb area getting the full beam one mixed up with the dipped one, it just needed a new bulb for me, made too much work for myself !!!

Re: Headlight problem
Make sure your definitly looking at the correct "lamp" and then check fuse and indicator stalk switch.
Which one of your full beam headlights are not working???
