D8 console bulbs

Post by mjb »

Just had a look at changing some dash bulbs on my dad's tubby. Didn't tackle the climate control display because I couldn't replace the trip computer's or clock's!

The bulb holders are the little black jobbies with hex-shaped bits on the back, and while the bulbs are standard 12v 1.2A affairs, the holders aren't. The bulbs are SOLDERED to the holders, and it's designed that way so there's no way of push-fitting a new bulb

Don't think I can solder loose bits that fine, so are there any options available other than buying new bulb+holders from the stealers? I've put one of my coupe's full size bulb holders in the clock where it fits, but they're too big for use in the t/c, and maybe the cc

Dug out my old estate's trip computer. The bulbs were soldered in that too!

The bulbs and holders come in one piece. Can't remember the code for the bulbs, and they're a nightmare to find. I tried 3 different parts shops and still couldn't find any, so I liberated a load from scrappies and found some that worked.

The ones in the link seem a little too tall from memory.

They're cheaper at the dealers - 611256 - £1.75 each

Nah, the ones I'm on about are about 1/3 the size from the 'lip' to the end of the bit you turn. Part 611260, £2.47 each

Interestingly the D9 (non-satnav) trip computer display is specified on servicebox to use the smaller, more expensive bulb holders, but mine's got the bigger ones in - there's no need for the small ones there as they're mounted on the rear.

The D9 climate control and satnav panels don't have bulbs listed for them!

I changed the bulbs in my D9 MFD a while back. Bought one lamp c/w holder from Pug, (all they had in stock) and put that in. Needless to say one of the others immediately failed, so I managed to change both of them by removing the bulb from the holder - just pulled out.

Later, I tried to show my bro how to do his and they wouldn't pull out, so I guess they were soldered. (They being one of the 3 from my MFD and the one from his D8 clock) :?

Guess some are soldered and some aren't - my car had a mixture.
