MFD vertical lines

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

MFD vertical lines

Post by TopDonkey »

I bought myself a 2001 silver peugeot 406 hdi estate off ebay today, I spent the day fixing a few faults (like a 2 inch split in a boost hose!), and giving it a thorough clean inside,

but the one thing that i'm not sure about, is the MFD display (the top gps one) which has about 15 vertical lines on it and is very difficult to see because of this, it seems to be a dot matrix display and i'm not sure how all the pixels are connected in the display, but wondered if anyone else has had success in repairing these displays before ?

Congratulations on your purchase, and welcome!

Unfortunately LCDs are unfixable. You'll have to grab a replacement from ebay or a breakers yard. Be aware that there's two types of D9 display - one for satnav cars (one button), the other without (2 buttons). Make sure you get the right type, and be aware there's a chance it may need coding to the stereo at a dealers

lcd's unfixable ?, theres a chalenge for me then !, I'm an electronics engineer by trade, but never looked into lcd repairs, anyone know how the pixels are interfaced ?

I must have the third type of display then, because mine has no buttons !, but it did come with an infra red remote control which i assumed was to operate the sat nav ?, but it has no batteries in it, so i havent played with it yet.

I am thinking of buying one of those chinese actia interfaces and running peugeot planet for diagnostics, I have a handheld diagnostic machine with can talk to the car and display live values, but it only shows 1 at a time and i cant code anything with it, does anyone have any experiences with the chinese actias ?

thanks

Morning TD, welcome to the club :cheesy:

That's right, the MFD for D9s with sat nav doesn't have any buttons (Matt must have had a few shandys last night  ), but it does have a reciever for the remote alongside the screen.

Only one member I know of who's got experience of the PP2000 and interface, you've already met him  :arrowu:

Hello, TD & welcome 8)

Your specialist knowledge could well come in handy methinks....
2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

Most LCD failures are down to the liquid crystal leaking, which isn't something I'm aware of being repairable

The chinese ones have dodgy software - the disc sent with mine was loaded with malware. When I contacted the seller he sent me to some broken rapidshare link. There's not much you can "code" with one. Probably be able to configure a new stereo or code a NEW (not 2nd hand) key. If you're not a serial PSA abuser it's probably better to take your car to a dealer for diags - dealers have access to a lot more features in the software such as the online bits, firmware updates and using the PM hardware

It looks like a button in the pics I've seen on ebay!

My sat nav mfd was excatly the same, after buying 2 replacements from parts gateway (and sending them both back cause they were faulty as well) i finally managed to get one from ebay for £25, i had to get it coded by one of the guys on here who has the interface and luckily lives only 20 miles away from myself.

just to add the reason i had to get it coded was it was not reconising the cd changer or the radio controls on the steering coloum, once coded it was 100%.
