We've just had a 406 hdi estate show up in the yard as scrap.
But it won't start. We've got one solid key for it, fits the ignition and turn the engine over fine. But the little key symbol on the clocks doesn't go out, is that normal?
As soon as we connect the battery, the hazards start flashing and won't stop. I'm assuming this is the alarm going off? (locking and unlocking the doors does nothing, unlike my d8 which turns it off)
When i turn the key the low pressure pump doesn't fire up but it works if i put power to it.
I'm guessing the immobiliser has kicked in? How do you normally turn it off? (i just push a button my remote, but this one doesn't have a button!)
Cheers.

Don't think you've got much chance without the correct transponder chip from the key....
I've heard the ECU will lock itself under some circumstances & it's a dealer-only job to re-initialise.
Which flavour HDi BTW?

2002 HDi 2.2 Exec Estate, (2008-12) (wonderful)
2003 HDi 2.2 6-speed Exec Estate (2012-19) (also a gem)
2009 Citroen C5 2.0 HDi VTR+ Estate (godawful heap)
2008 BMW E91 330i touring (great fun - murdered by a reversing SUV)
2007 BMW E91 325i touring (slower smoother quieter)

I'm guessing it's a 90 as there's no intercooler.
Ho hum, looks like we'll be chucking a perfectly good engine into the skip then, pity

Re: HDI immobiliser query.
Try a new battery, and don't turn the key too quickly. When the battery's low, the BSI doesn't have enough power to read the transponder in the key while the starter's cranking. I say "low" - a battery which is perfectly good in another car may not deliver the CCA to run a D9

Re: HDI immobiliser query.
Turns out this "solid" key has a chip inside!
Put a fresh battery and a boost pack onto it today.
No noise form the pump in the tank and it wouldn't start.
Hazard lights are still flashing and the key symbol on the dash doesn't go away. And i get a bleep every second or so while cranking the engine.
Immobiliser then?

Re: HDI immobiliser query.
"Solid" key as in with no buttons on it? I'm only aware of those being on D8s with either no immobiliser or a keypad...
Is there a keypad by the drivers right-hand knee? Do you have the code for it?

Re: HDI immobiliser query.
I opened up the "solid" key, there was a space in the moulding for a transponder chip, which was there. Just no buttons for remote locking and such.
No keypad on this one.
