ELECTRIC WINDOW SWITCH NOT WORKING

Talk about the 406's electrical system, what wires do what, how to add extra functionality, etc.

ELECTRIC WINDOW SWITCH NOT WORKING

Post by jata23 »

406 HDI S ESTATE (90HP)

Can anyone help, my electric windows have partialy packed up i have the four pack version on the drivers door and the switches that activate the rear windows do not work and are not illuminated, and also the drivers door window switch works now and again.
i cannot operate the rear windows even from the back doors themselves, which is making me thing there is a electrical fault rather than the switch itself, or can someone tell me if the wiring system has been done in such a manner that if the master switch (drivers) packs up that the rears will not open from their own controllers.
I have been given a price from the dealers of £150.00 for a replacement but i need to make sure the switch is at fault.

I don't have a manual to hand, but are the rear windows on a separate fuse?
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

The driver's door switch has the ability to tur the rear door switches off, so if it's up the duff I can well imagine they'd not work. Reaches for HBoL... Oh look, it only covers the front windows

You sure the connector's not dropping out of the switch?

Hi, mjb there is only one fuse and i have discovered that there are two seperate relays under drivers side a have swapped them around but same problem. My dad said he could here a rapid clicking noise from the fuse box was apparent when operating the rear window switches (from front panel) prior to the rear windows packing up.

If it's anything like wiring on the old Peugeot's, then if you remove one switch, the other will not operate the window, i.e. on my 309, if I disconnect the passenger window switch from the drivers side, I can't open the window from the passenger side, however reconnect the switch and both switches operate the window.

That part is costly to replace aswell and they seem to go for £40 upwards regularly on eBay (over £200 new from Pug IIRC). I'm just keeping my eyes open for one in a local scrappy.
