That would have been before the days of SPECS cameras everywhere. The M6 (from Stoke down at least) is pretty much entirely 50mph enforced by SPECS cameras. Just set the CC for 54mph and waft along without having to look at the speedo. Takes so much of the stress out of driving on that road - there's no more "oh my god I've crept over 50! I've got to do 48mph for the next 3.5 minutes now!".
I've also started to use it on urban roads too when coming up to cameras... in the 406.
The Golf's cruise control is bloody hard to use - damn thing's on the lighting stalk! To set/accelerate you need to pull a tab outwards (usually flashing your main beams in the process), and to slow down you need to push in the end of the stalk (usually flashing your main beams in the process). If you do it during the day you can inadvertently leave the stalk in the main beam position, so you end up flashing your main beams when you next turn the lights on... DIEEEEEE! Germans have no sense of how to lay out a cars controls
<steve_earwig> I think this forum is more about keeping our cars going with minimal outlay than giving our cars more reason to go bang

You need to adjust your driving style Wiggy , look a long way ahead and plan!
Either that or it must be the lovely quiet roads we have in Wales
What kinda speeds do you guys drive on motorways and dual carriageways then? I usually waft around at about 65 - 70ish, I can see it being useless if you're trying to do 80 everywhere cos the outside lane traffic just don't flow like that unless the road's very quiet. 'Praps that's the difference?

Mostly l/h lane, around 70, any faster and cruise is pointless from the get go. Just seemed like there was always someone in my way going just a bit slower, so (off) wait for a gap to overtake, overtake, tuck in (on), next car. Or overtaking lorries going up a hill, come to the top and it's either put your foot down and tuck in in front or wait for them to go, pull in again with a lorry crawling up your exhaust pipe, decision possibly clouded by the retard in the BMW about 2 meters behind you. I wouldn't mind if it was once in a while but I just remember it being constantly, on and off so many times I gave up with it. And the amount of people whose speed constantly varies, here I go again overtaking the same bluddy Mundrano for the 12th bluddy time...
I mostly jump on the outside lane train with all the (just) under 100mph brigade. To be honest I find it more stressfull playing with the lorries and moving in and out all the time so just pick up my speed and sit there on the train....
Anyway I have the added security of the Volvo MOIFY* system

2013 Renner Twingo - donkey work
I drive a lorry a lot, and as stated with the average speed cameras, it's great to be able to set it to 52/53mph to get through the 50mph zone as quick as you can without being had.

"Boîtier de Servitude Intelligent" It's the car's central processing unit, which has some say in most of the car's systems. Looky. Yes they go wrong, yes, they're hideously expensive to replace
